APE Hanger™ Series 9/8 loudspeaker rigging is designed around a 1 1/8" (9/8") diameter tube. It is a single-point system with low visual impact.
It is used in conjunction with user-provided schedule 40 steel pipe and/or steel framing systems like Unistrut. This combination creates a system that is flexible, safe, fast and affordable.
Because it is a single-point system, it is far less time consuming to make the structural connection amidst the jungle of other building elements like conduit, ductwork and sprinkler systems.
The APE Hanger™ can be used to install a speaker to within a few inches of a ceiling while retaining full adjustability of Pan, Tilt and Rotation angles. This is a great advantage when last minute adjustments to aiming angles are required. It also alleviates the need to know precise aiming angles prior to installation.
Speaker arrays of any configuration can be built without sacrificing the adjustability of each speaker. Unlike audio rigging systems that require linking speakers together at fixed angles and then hoisting them into place as one unit, APE Hanger™ rigged speakers are hoisted individually. Because of this, the hoisting equipment can be far smaller and less cumbersome.
The APE Hanger™ allows much more preparation to be done in the controlled environment of your facility instead of the frequently chaotic conditions of a construction site. Speakers can be transported to the job site in their shipping box with the APE Hanger™ attached, then literally hoisted out of their boxes and into position. Even the tilt angle can be adjusted prior to delivery.
Taking advantage of these features decreases installation time, protects equipment from damage and decreases the opportunity for theft.
Adjusting the pan, tilt and rotation angles on the APE Hanger™ is very easy. To adjust the pan angle, simply loosen the two screws on the swivel assembly and turn the speaker left or right.
The tilt angle is controlled by moving the tilt traveler along the axial tube and fixing its position with the two shaft collars. This is easily accomplished, even on a speaker over 200 lbs, using a mini chain hoist such as the Harrington LX003 or CM 602. Please see APE Hanger™ instructions on Downloads page. Aside from making the tilt adjustment, these mini chain hoists are a must-have for your rigging kit.
The rotation adjustment is exceedingly easy. This adjustment is used to create tightly packed speaker arrays by adding rotation, level a speaker (0º rotation) or to control the coverage pattern in the house. The adjustment is made by rotating the drive screw, which can be done very quickly using a 9/16" socket on a cordless drill.
